Electrical Distribution Boards Buyers Guide

The electrical panel is designed to receive and distribute electricity between consumers: several apartments, office premises, workshops or pieces of equipment. It also mounts protective devices that prevent short circuits, electric shocks, and overloads.

They are usually made of metal, which makes them durable and resistant to mechanical stress. The most reliable models are galvanized steel, as they are not susceptible to corrosion and can be mounted on the street or in rooms with high humidity. Less common are products in a plastic case.

The shield is a rectangular box with a door. Inside it is installed meters, circuit breakers, circuit breakers, tires. In the shield, where the wires of the main network are connected, the wiring to the electrical consumers is done. There are holes in the case for inputting wires (3, 6, 10 or more). The door, as a rule, is locked, and on some models, a seal is placed to avoid unauthorized interference in the operation of electrical devices.

By the type of installation, the guards are floor, mounted, built-in. Some universal models can be mounted on the wall and put on the floor, depending on the room's characteristics.

Selection options

  • Sizes. Depending on how many modular devices you plan to install, choose a model of the appropriate size.
  • The degree of dust and moisture protection. It is indicated by the IP value for each model, depending on its protective shell. Indicates the conditions under which the shield can be used and how reliably the enclosure will protect the wiring accessories from external influences. For example, metering and distribution panels of the IP 31 class are protected against penetration of solid particles with a diameter of more than 2.5 mm and water droplets falling vertically on the case. It is recommended to install them in rooms with a normal level of humidity. For outdoor installation, it is better to choose a model with a higher protection class, for example, IP 54. This is a guarantee of protection against dust and water splashes from any direction inside the case.
  • Options. Most electrical panels come complete with a lock and keys, pressure glands, warning stickers with grounding and lightning bolts. Some models have a DIN rail for mounting RCDs and circuit breakers.
